Sulfur is also a major component of keratin, which makes up hair, skin and nails.*

Vitamin A: It has a variety of effects in the body such as decreasing inflammation, helping the immune system and regulating growth of epidermal cells. This popular vitamin in cosmetics belongs to a large class of compounds called retinoids. It’s precursor is called beta-carotene and is found in cosmetics as retinol, retinyl esters, retinoic acid, retinyl palmitate, acitretin and adapalene.*

Vitamin E: Promotes epithelialization and enzyme activity for faster wound healing. Helps render vitamin C more powerful. Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, thus allowing skin to appear younger. Naturally occurring antioxidant. Topical application of vitamin E is said to result in skin smoothening, moisturizing, prevention of pre-mature skin-aging, and suppression of UV-induced erythema. *

Vitamin D: Contains strong anti-inflammatory properties. Serves as an effective treatment for skin injuries and skin damage.*

Vitamin C: An active form of Vitamin C occurs naturally in citrus fruits. This potent water-soluble antioxidant protects skin from oxidative damages caused by the sun rays (UVA/UVB radiation). Arnica Montana: Arnica has been used for centuries as a natural pain reliever for insect bites and swollen veins near the surface of the skin (superficial phlebitis). Arnica has antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Arnica is applied to the skin for pain and swelling associated with bruises, aches, sprains, bruises and arthritis. It also stimulates the forming of the granular tissues and thus accelerates the healing process.*

Chamomile: Soothes skin rashes (including eczema), minor burns and sunburn. Chamomile may ease the itching of eczema and other rashes and reduces skin inflammation. It may also speed healing and prevent bacterial infection. Recent and on-going research has identified chamomile’s specific anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, muscle relaxant, antispasmodic, anti-allergenic and sedative properties, validating its long-held reputation.

Castanha da India “Horse Chestnut”: The herb is anti-inflammatory which decreases swelling and an astringent which reduces bleeding and adds tone to connective tissue. Much of the medicinal value of horse chestnut is attributed to the phytochemical aescin, which has a stabilizing action on veins and capillaries. This strengthening of veins improves circulation to areas of cellulite and heals bruising.

In a recent study patients with painful osteoarthritis of the knee treated with comfrey root extract in an ointment showed a reduction in pain, mobility of the knee improved and quality of life increased. Comfrey ointments are best known for the topical treatment of burns, skin ulcerations, abrasions, lacerations and just about any skin irritation. Comfrey’s astringent tannins form a protective surface over wounds that promotes healing. You may want to try comfrey or ointment skin creams for diabetic sores. Lanolin Oil: Turns out, lanolin is one of the most skin-loving ingredients around. Offers impressive benefits for the skin. It’s a semi-occlusive breathable barrier, so it protects and absorbs at the same time. Once it penetrates into the skin, it holds up to 400 times its weight in water, so it’s a fantastic moisture reservoir for skin.” In short, lanolin works double-duty; it both moisturizes skin from the outside, and helps the skin to moisturize itself from within.
